What is "language proficiency test"?

The American Heritage Dictionary of English defines proficienct as "performing in a given art, skill or branch of knowldge with expert correctness and facility."

A proficiency test is intended to measure langauge proficiency, i.e. the ability to fuction using the language to communicate.  It is not limited to any once course or curriculum.

To assess your proficiency you may use "Self Assessment" developed for foreign Language speakers by the  Interagency Langauge Roundtable (U.S. government) below or to read in detail the characteristics of each proficiency level.

The SiamWest Thai proficiency test was designed to rate your ability in using Thai language to perform tasks.  The rating is based on the ILR (Interagency Language Roundtable or known as U.S. government) guideline.

Sample Reading Materials

 Sample 01: You must be at 4 level (ILR) or higher than Superior level to be able to read this text with a complete comprehension 

Sample 02: You must be at 3 level (ILR) or higher to read this text with a complete comprehension.

Sample 03:  You must be at 2 level or higher to be able to read this text with a complete comprehension.

Sample 04:  You must be at least an R-1 level or higher to read this text with complete comprehension.
